What to do first…

Do you really want to retire with lots of money in the kind of place you dream about? Think about it… what exactly do you want? The first step in any major endeavor is to know what you want. There is no substitute for this step and without it the odds are you’ll never go beyond the dreaming stage.
I always knew I loved warm weather, palm trees, great surf, scuba diving, and crystal clear ocean. I tended to get hung up on wondering how I could make it happen and still pay the bills. Then duh I just realized that my life would pass me by if I didn’t take action.
I’d always heard that visualizing things was a great way to make them happen. My biggest problem is that I suck at visualizing the future because I just hate to narrow things down for fear of eliminating options and restricting my life too much. I also knew that if I didn’t work on the visualization part I’d probably never tap into the power of picturing my future.
Then came the brainstorm — it was really frigging simple when it came down to it. I made a screen saver and populated it with every dazzling photo I could find of tropical beauty, waterfalls, babes on the beach, idyllic anything as long as it had tropical all over it.
I had underwater photos that only scuba divers could take. I had photos of my vacations. I had photos of every sport I love that involved sand, ocean, palm trees, and waterfalls. I discarded every mountain scene that hinted of anything but how I wanted to live my life. I left that screen saver on 24 x 7.
I moved that computer into the kitchen where I could see it and where every guest that entered my house could see it. The pictures were rotating every 10 seconds or so and people would just stand there and look at the pictures. If I got up in the middle of the night for a snack the pictures were rolling.
I was embedding those scenes deep in my consciousness and everytime I looked at the screen saver I was reminded of what I wanted. I only had that thing running for about 2 years, if that, before I was selling the house and getting ready to move to the tropics.
Sound to simple? It is too simple for most people and most who read this will never do it. However you cannot get unusual results in life by doing what the average person does and you cannot remain average if you do unusual things.
