Twitter?
By Sean | August 1, 2009
I can’t believe this twitter phenomena. I mean I’m so new at this I don’t even know how to post my twitter link on this site yet. However I gotta say as soon as I began to follow a few people they just began to follow me back.
I had no idea that twitter was so stinkin’ simple. I mean yes there’s a few things to find out and unless you pay someone for a course people don’t seem to be saying much about how to use it. But really the secret seems to be just to figure out how to follow people.
I mean that sounds pretty silly on the surface of it because you just click one button to follow someone. However HOW to follow people is clearly an art. Just gathering as many followers as possible is not going to give the best long term results. In life it never is. The idea of social networking is clearly to have a positive social experience and to connect with the people with whom you can make that happen. In a sense that’s really the idea of life itself.
Figure out how to avoid people that are destructive and find those who are creative. Is there anything else?
Of course there is — I’m not that simplistic. Everyone has a different idea of how to enjoy life. The trick is to find enough people whose ideas about enjoyment intersect enough of yours to have some fun, some laughs, pay the bills, and get a little crazy sometimes.
( tried the idea of getting a little (ok a lot) crazy ALL the time and I can say that when you try to do that so much that “crazy” becomes “normal” then how do you get crazy?
That has to be the biggest letdown in all of existence — when you find that getting crazy is so normal it’s boring. Fortunately I discovered this by the time I was 23 and for a while just being normal was as unusual and fascinating as getting nuts. For those of you rockers who are 50 and still trying to recreate the original crazy you found as a teenager — you are missing the greatest “cool” of all. Being normal.
Of course you will not find any burned out 50 year old rockers (who have never discovered the wild coolness of normal) at this site reading this because they are too messed up to read much less type in the URL.
Please forgive the shameless promotion in my article about anxiety. It really seems tacky to me now that I’ve realized social networking is not about saying “hi my name is Sean — wanna buy a …..?” However it is my first attempt to sell anything online so cut me a little slack for the enthusiasm. It cost me 78.75 in advertising for each 39.00 sale so my customers are getting a cool deal. However those numbers are not sustainable.
By far the most important thing I learned was not to buy anything ever again from Internet Marketing Center. I’ve since spoken with some heavy hitters out there who confirmed my opinion of them and have run into others who used the words “prey upon” to describe IMC’s tactics.
Anyway I got way off the twitter topic — but did I? I don’t know what twitter holds but so far it seems to be the fastest coolest way to connect with people looking to connect with people.
